Internships are a must in many courses and even if they are not, every student does one sooner or later. Finding a suitable internship can be very time-consuming and nerve-wracking. Many applicants don’t even know exactly which internships are offered by which companies. The Blind Applying program addresses exactly this problem. There, students can apply for 15 internship positions with just one CV.
Alex Kilmpasanis, project manager at Blind Applying, reveals exactly how this works and what you should generally consider when applying.
Mr. Kilmpasanis, how exactly does blind applying work?
Blind Applying is an international campaign for students from all disciplines. Top employers offer internships in locations around the world. Students can apply for all of these positions with just one CV, without knowing which company is offering which internship.
The idea is that students stumble upon career paths they hadn't previously considered.
In your opinion, what distinguishes a good application from a less good one?
Good applications are clear. At first glance it should be clear what skills and experience an applicant has. The basic rule is: as much information as necessary and as little as possible.

Which applications are the most promising?
In general - not just for applications to Blind Applying - CVs that show a motivated and committed applicant are always welcome. Participation in a group, volunteer work and even running a blog can make the applicant stand out from the crowd and demonstrate initiative, leadership potential and good communication skills. These skills are sought after by employers in all industries.
What should students consider when preparing an application?
Format strictly and structured. A resume receives little attention. The top part of the page should therefore definitely show the strongest points. Applicants should put the things they are most proud of and that best reflect their abilities as high up as possible.
Applicants should also briefly describe their previous professional experience and use strong verbs.

What mistakes should be avoided when applying?
In the show business they say: Show, don't tell. This particularly applies to the part of applications that deals with your own personality. Applicants should avoid empty phrases such as, I am very motivated, a team player and think outside the box. It's much better to let your actions speak for themselves. A business student who is very interested in technology and programming should include these skills by example high in their application.
What advice would you like to give to young applicants?
Be yourself!
In addition, every applicant, regardless of age and in which industry, should always remember that the right timing plays an enormous role. Sometimes there's nothing wrong with the application, it's just that the employer isn't looking. My advice is not to give up and always stick to the topic. Applicants who get involved and show commitment will sooner or later find a suitable opportunity, or the opportunity will find them.
