Many people claim that the word credit comes from the Latin word “credere” (to believe). In fact, the word actually evolved from the Italian “credito,” which also means “faith” or “trust.” So you see, the devil is in the details, and even if the difference seems negligible, it is still linguistically significant and therefore vital for a show-off!
By the way, creditworthiness is directly related to credibility, and that's why banks have a bit of a hard time with it. Faith and trust are good, but control is better!
