Very few students have the money to afford their own car, but there are always situations in which a car would be very useful. Whether it's a trip to the furniture store, a move, a drive home or a vacation with friends - in some situations a car is easier and more practical than a bus or train. As a student you also have the chance to take advantage of the Hertz student discount. Students can save up to 15% on car rentals and up to 20% on truck rentals. The Hertz student discount has some conditions:
- Students must be at least 19 years old and have had their driving license for at least one year.
- In the UK, students must be at least 23 years old to rent a car or truck.
- A young driver surcharge must be paid for all drivers under 25. In Germany this is €19.63 per day up to a maximum of €196.35.
Renting a car to visit a music event, such as the Hurricane Festival at Eichenring , is very popular with students. You can share a rental car with several friends to reduce travel costs. Not everyone has to buy their own train or bus ticket. At some festivals you can even use the car to camp in. You can then safely leave the tent at home.
A rental car is also ideal for a trip home to your parents. The laundry that has accumulated over weeks is much easier to transport in a car than by train or bus. Delays in public transport are no longer an issue. You may even have a few friends who also want to go to the same city, and you can save a lot of money this way. You are also mobile at home and don't have to borrow your parents' car. This means you can visit friends and acquaintances completely independently.
Renting a truck is of course particularly worthwhile when there is a change of scenery. It's quite tedious to lug a bed, wardrobe, TV and shelves into a new apartment and of course a truck makes the whole thing a lot easier. So it's no problem if you only need the rented vehicle for one day.
