“Boy 7: Don’t trust anyone. Not even yourself!” by Mirjam Mous

A young adult thriller with an incredible number of surprises, upheavals and a tension that lasts throughout the entire book and increases as it gets closer to the end. General short description “Boy” wakes up in the middle of a green, deserted meadow and doesn’t know who he is, why he’s lying there, let alone how he got here. And that's exactly where the story begins. He tries to clarify all these questions and meets people he shouldn't trust. My opinion Mirjam Mous' writing style can be described as relaxed, exciting and entertaining, which I like very much. I love it when you go in without much prior knowledge and are always surprised. The book Boy 7 is structured in such a way that the reader and the protagonist are ignorant at the beginning of the book and so you wander around with Boy 7 unsuspectingly, looking for the truth. The effect of surprise is there right from the start and you're just excited. In the end, the story of Boy 7 is revealed and you have to say goodbye to him with a heavy heart. With a heavy heart because I really loved the characters. Throughout the book, the characters are opaque and you build up trust in some of them, which is later disappointed. Mirjam Mous simply knows how to portray a character in such a way that it gives me as a reader a completely wrong impression and the story is enriched with many surprises. The tension in this thriller is almost unbearable and this young adult book does the genre justice. It was simply a wonderful reading experience that made you hold your breath, marvel and empathize because it is incredibly moving. Curious?
