The first student party of the year is always the best! You are fully motivated after the long semester break and are looking forward to getting to know other people or maybe even falling in love. You too would like to make a few new friends and after taking a long sip of your drink, you decide to get in touch .
In what context do you use the phrase?
In general, “getting in touch” means seeking close physical contact with another person. But you can also use the phrase in other contexts, for example when you move to a new city or start a new job and first get to know it, so you have to "get up close and personal" with it.
How did the phrase come about?
"Getting in touch" is derived from the soldiers' language: When they have to line up, they often stand so close to each other that the cloth of the uniform touches that of the soldier next to them. So they literally "get in touch with each other", although not in a romantic sense.
