Four weeks ago we found out where “Cockpit” comes from, today it’s the turn of “Cocktail”. If you look closely, you will see that the word for the Truppifrutti drink is made up of the parts “cock” and “tail”, which translates as “rooster tail”.
There are many exciting stories about where and how the expression came about. One of them goes like this: In the past, after cockfights, the owner of the winning rooster was allowed to pluck out the colorful tail feathers of the dead loser rooster. During the later drinks, people drank on the trophy, “on the cock's tail” so to speak.
