Warum sagt man eigentlich “Chaos”? (#186)

Why do we actually say “chaos”? (#186)

The term “chaos” has been used quite frequently recently, especially in relation to Hessian state politics. So it's time to clarify its meaning.
Chaos is one of the oldest words ever. It is already known from the Vulgate and the “cháos” also existed in Greek. At the time, it referred to the “gaping void (of space).” Later in Latin it became “the formless primordial mass lying in immeasurable darkness”.
That doesn't sound very chaotic at first. Nevertheless, the “formless primal mass” also points to an area in which human values no longer have any meaning and are in the process of dissolving.
