Studying in Münster means: having taken part in the coveted Münster box race once in your student career. It is one of the most beloved events by students, as well as the bachelor pubs. But what exactly is a box race? What is meant by a box and where does it start?
The box race began a few years ago on May 1st. On this day, the young adults leave studying in Münster behind and load the handcart full of beer and grilled sausages. Then you hike through Münster's picturesque nature. For some groups, this simple May walk became too unimaginative. A new thrill was needed.
Study in Münster and know how a box race works:
Small groups of 2-3 compete against each other. Each group is assigned a box with 24 0.33 liter bottles of beer. This has to be carried by the team members over a distance of up to 10km to the destination.
In addition, however, there is a task of the alcoholic type that makes studying in Münster a long way off: the runners can drink Pilsner at several stations - and have to empty the 24 bottles as a team if they want to have a chance of winning. The beers from the box remain unopened; Chilled beers are served.
The decision as to who from the team drinks how many Pilsners and at which station is left to the participants. However, anyone in the team who has not drunk the 24 Pils will be disqualified.
Study in Münster and take part in the first Bixxeschubbse championship
Organizers like FortunaSys have come up with and launched other spectacular events based on the box race. On Pentecost Sunday, May 24th. The first Münster Bixxeschubse championship will take place on the FSV Münster sports grounds.
The sports equipment is a 250cm long and 1m diameter (modeled) beverage can, the so-called “BIXX”. It must be pushed by 4 people over a distance of 25 or 50 meters. For this purpose, there are 2 people at the front of the BIXX, on a push bar and 2 people at the back who push the BIXX on a cross bar. The BIXX stands on runners on which it slides over the asphalt.
Each team has 2 heats in the preliminary round, the times of which are added together. Pushing is carried out in two directions, with each team having to push once in each direction. Between two pushes by a team, 4 opposing teams should always have pushed.
