We let the library and our own four walls compete against each other in a battle. Where is it better to learn? Where are the greatest dangers of procrastination?
Ring Free: Bib vs. Home
1. Snacks
At home you can't concentrate because the fridge is just too tempting with its delicacies. Come on, a quick bowl of cornflakes... And another 15 minutes go by.
In the bib you don't have to run to the fridge - the bag of crackers is ready to hand next to "Macroeconomics for Dummies". But here too, nibbling “eats up” valuable time. Ultimately, you have to take everything out of the nasty crackling bag very carefully and in slow motion so as not to disturb Charlotte from the statistics course while she is marking important passages in the learning folder.
2. Drink
Drinking a lot is key! You should brew fresh tea at home at least every 20 minutes!
In the library, the urge for coffee increases every 10 minutes. But the pork from the vending machine in front of the library is inedible. A 15-minute walk to the café around the corner is much more worthwhile. They also have soy milk and freshly imported beans from Tajikistan!
3. Learning supplies
The desk is prepared, the television is turned off and you have even temporarily deactivated your Facebook profile. But what didn't you think of? There are no printers or textbooks at home! As we know, you can feed yourself on air and love, but can that also work with learning?
So off to the library: there are printers and even books! But once you get to university, the next blow of fate comes! There's the same queue in front of the printer as in front of the employment office, a page costs as much as the Tajik coffee from point 2 ("Drinking") and the books are all rented out! Those stupid nerds who always have to start studying 10 days before the exam!
4. Internet speed
Nothing is going on at home because your roommates are once again spending a lot of time on streaming portals and porn sites. But hey: the main thing is that each roommate saves €3.50 per month! The 16 line is completely sufficient (NOT!!!!).
In the library the internet is 10x as fast. So fast that you can spend a little time watching Netflix or Snap by Sky before studying. A little hint with the fence post: You can test Snap by Sky free of charge for 1 month.
5. Noise
At home you enjoy the peace and quiet. At least half an hour before you freak out and start singing Beyoncé songs. But with Shakira’s voice! Määääääääääääääää Aww!
Don't despair of peace and quiet in the library - because there isn't any there! Can Spacko in the front right please stop banging his pen on the edge of the table in time with the construction site hammering on the floor above?!
6. Social interaction
At home you start talking to yourself because there isn't a soul around to chat with. Not even Thekla, the spider above your closet, comes out of her crack to keep you company.
It's much better in the library. It's full of talkative people there. However, they get on your nerves after just a short amount of time.
7. Lunch
You've been studying at home all morning and then suddenly you're hungry. Of course there's nothing in the fridge, apart from the smoked trout fillets on a bed of celery, garnished with melon wedges - but from yesterday. It definitely doesn't taste good anymore! You really need to go shopping again. Maybe duck à l'orange today? After 3 hours of shopping, cooking and eating, it's clear as day that the entire kitchen still needs to be scrubbed.
Of course that can't happen to you in the library. Then you realize that your favorite sandwiches are unfortunately out, so you have to drive to the other end of town to your favorite Korean restaurant. Duration: Approximately 2.5 hours. That would be 3 capitals of labor law.
8. Progressive procrastination
The urgent spring cleaning in all its dimensions is being done at home. It's almost Christmas again, but fuck it! In addition, you try on old clothes to clear them out if necessary or try a makeover with a new hairstyle.
There's a cleaning lady in the library - you don't have to clean anything. But maybe it would be the right time to organize a little flash mob?!
9. Study breaks
It is important that you take a break after learning each page. After all, you still need enough power and energy for all the other pages. What can you do during a break like that? Bungee jumping, baking a pineapple upside down cake or teaching your cats to swim!
In the library you find out by chance that the sports department is throwing a little barbecue party. Perfect! A little cocktail break between studying is always possible.
10. Just give it up...
... and continue learning tomorrow or the day after! In the meantime, reward yourself for your learning success so far with free audio books from Audible, for example, or take a look at our options for listening to music online for free!
Learn at home or in the library? Where is procrastination greatest? It's a head-to-head race!
