Jodel - App zum Lästern

Yodeling - gossiping without consequences

Your anonymous Campus Talk helps you really let off steam while studying without being recognized straight away. Jodel has been available as an app since October 20, 2014. RWTH Aachen was the first university in Germany to be chosen for the first yodeling experiment. You can find out more about the Jodel pilot project here .

Now let's yodel!

With Jodel you find out what's happening around you in real time. Check the anonymous messages and pictures from your surroundings and don't miss anything while studying. Connect with anyone quickly and easily without having to know them. No matter what the people around you use Jodel for - news, funny experiences, greetings, jokes, events - nothing reaches those around you faster than a Jodel. By upvoting and downvoting the Jodel, you determine what is talked about in your community and when studying. Chat with the entire campus without a care in the world, be freer and crazier than ever before.

Mostly everyday topics of student life are shared. From the collective complaint about the last business administration lecture to absurd experiences while shopping - the main thing is that it is current, funny and comprehensible.

The idea behind yodeling

“The aim was to create a platform where the focus is on the content of what is said and not on the person,” says Alessio Avellan Borgmeyer. “I had the impression that young people in particular were tired of the self-promoting parallel world created by Facebook or Instagram,” says the Jodel founder. You can find further information about the interview with the Jodel founder here .

The app is now used in 20 different German cities. It was only recently introduced in the yodeling stronghold of Mannheim in the 2015 summer semester. But students use the app with mixed feelings. Despite initial and ongoing enthusiasm, the forecast for the app is rather critical. Often it's just sayings that you already know that are posted and the relevance usually leaves a lot to be desired. One of the Mannheim students describes Jodel as a digital school toilet wall. Where everyone can leave their comment.

For the founders, the newsfeed works better than the suggestion system of some companies: For example, there is a desire for trending hashtags, i.e. sorting according to the most popular topics of the day, or the monetization of karma. There will be a comprehensive upgrade soon. We can't wait to see where the yodel will come from.
