In conversation with Joab (blogger)

Where do you live?

Berlin.

How old are you?

30.

What do you study?

Culture and media management.

Does your blog have anything to do with your studies?

I started the blog independently of my studies. Thematically, it deals with the pure everyday cultural communication of a big city and in my studies, topics from the areas of culture, media, communication, Berlin, etc. were always on the curriculum. Seen in this way, the two complemented each other very nicely. During my studies everything was a bit more theoretical, but in the blog I was able to get fully into practice and try out a lot of things.

What are your favorite topics to blog about?

The paper trail in Berlin is extremely diverse and has something for almost every topic. But I particularly like to post notes where people are looking for each other (often very romantic, naive and just sweet) or complaining about something. The latter is particularly evident in neighborly living together and of course – a very big issue in Berlin – in bicycle theft. You often react out of emotion and give free rein to your anger and despair.

How long has your blog been around?

October 2010.

Why did you start blogging?

I wanted to make these cultural treasures accessible to a broad public, even outside of Berlin. And people are also trying to raise awareness in the sense that you should always go through life with your eyes open, because there is so much to discover every day. Anytime, anywhere and free of charge. The notes are a wonderful example of this. The blog's readers support Angebinn's project and send in their finds every day.

How much time does blogging take?

It concerns me every day. Sometimes just half an hour, sometimes significantly more. It's a bit like a sensitive plant: you always have to take care of it, otherwise it will eventually die.

Do you think that your blog will help you advance your career?

He already has. The book for the blog has been around since 2012: “Budgie escaped. Color doesn’t matter – strange paperwork.” Published by Ullstein. The blog opened the door to the publishing world for me and fulfilled my first big dream: publishing my own book.

Do you think you'll continue blogging after you graduate?

Yes I will.
