Where do you live?
I study in Lüneburg, where I have a room in a shared apartment and live half the week. However, I have three jobs in Hamburg, spend the other half of the week there and commute back and forth between my two worlds.
How old are you?
Apparently they don't buy it, I recently had to argue wildly with the supermarket cashier so that she would sell me wine (!). I am 21.
What do you study?
I study cultural studies and politics.
Does your blog have anything to do with your studies?
Not directly. I think that my studies make up a large part of my life (half, haha) and therefore influence me. This influence will also be partly found in texts. For example, there is a text in which I am upset about the unwillingness to give up seats on the bus to older people. I see this every day on the university bus.
What are your favorite topics to blog about?
Of course, everything that has to do with DIY. My blog is a DIY blog. Crafting, knitting, sewing, simply being creative is what fulfills me and provides balance to my university and working life.
How long has your blog been around?
Almost two years. I started in June 2011.
Why did you start blogging?
That was actually a huge coincidence. I did an internship at HandmadeKultur (a DIY magazine + portal), which I only came to by chance. For the next edition, we were looking for three people to serve as guinea pigs to test various blog providers for user-friendliness. I actually thought blogging was stupid, pure self-expression. But I did it anyway and enjoyed it. I'm also the only one still there.
How much time does blogging take?
An awful lot. I don't aim to post something new every day, I'd rather post something new every one or two weeks, but then I make sure that it's a well-rounded thing. Above all, instructions are super complex. Take photos, formulate texts, and prevent possible problems that may arise. Sewing instructions sometimes also include patterns, which is the most time-consuming. I also make sure to answer most of the comments and emails I get, that's important to me.
Do you think that your blog will help you advance your career?
If you don't know what you want to do later, study business administration or cultural studies. That's how it is with me, I don't know exactly what I'll be when I grow up. But I doubt that my blog could advance my career, I don't know how. But that doesn't have to be the case, it's a hobby and a balance.
Do you think you'll continue blogging after you graduate?
As long as I have ideas, I will blog, completely independent of my studies. However, my studies have an influence on the quantity. I hardly get to do it during exam times. So it could be that I might have to take a break during my bachelor's thesis.
