There are many reasons why you should start a blog. Those who go abroad for a while want to share their experiences and impressions with those back home, while others use it as a platform to communicate with like-minded people. Students also blog, but rarely about exams and specialist literature. Fashion is at the top of the list of common blog topics. What am I wearing? What are others wearing? What would I like to wear? But there are also other blogs where one student reveals herself to be an enthusiastic baker, another gives instructions on sewing and the Berliner captures the capital's public paper trail in pictures. Our small selection shows: Students are diverse! They get around a lot, glue, paste and doodle and see their city and their lives from their own perspective. This makes blogs a kaleidoscope of life plans, phases and topics of young people from major German cities. But blogs also function as a network, sometimes as an application folder. It is not uncommon for you to find contact with the creative industry through blogging.
Katharina, 22, is studying German and art history in Kiel
“Cake, tarts, cupcakes, cookies and everything sweet,” Katharina answers when asked about the topic of her blog, which has been online for a year and a half. “My blog is for those with a sweet tooth who like to mess with dough and are looking for new recipes.” This has absolutely nothing to do with her humanities studies; she sees baking and blogging as a creative balance to her studies, she explains. At first, the student followed other baking blogs, but soon thought: “Hey, you can do that too!” She now posts one article a week, spending most of her time baking. Katharina is pleased about the great response to her colorful blog, which earned her the job as a guest blogger for a magazine.

Alexa, 22, is studying fashion management in Berlin
Since the beginning of 2012, Alexa has been showing pictures on her blog that focus on her life in Berlin, impressions from travel and the daily madness. “I blog my photos to show others how I see the world through my eyes,” she explains, “and I like to get feedback to improve myself.” Taking photos is a way for Alexa to express herself creatively, what In addition to the business science aspect, it is also part of your studies. Whenever the Berliner sees something interesting, she presses the shutter button, and hopefully that won't change after she finishes her studies.

Sari, 24, is studying to become a secondary school teacher for art, German and English in Stuttgart
As a teacher, Sari will soon introduce students to the creative use of colors and shapes. On her blog she has already been able to practice inspiring other people to do DIY projects for self-designed jewelry, decorative items and gift ideas. The blog on which Sari writes about fashion, lifestyle and recipes and which she sees as a “virtual diary” has existed for more than two years. The student has already built up a second mainstay, because through her blog she has already been able to participate in a book project, sell her products in an online shop and regularly cooperates with larger and smaller companies.
Annika, 24, studies special education in Dortmund
Her favorite topics are fashion and outfits, which the student also writes about on her blog. “Sometimes and every now and then I post about exam phases and problems that arise,” says Annika, “but the topic of 'study' is not the focus.” Since July 2010, she has been blogging about the things that are important to her. Since November 2010, it has mainly been the cancer diagnosis she received back then, now it is the hair growing again. She blogs at least once a week, depending on what's going on. It should stay that way after graduation, even if the focus of the topic will definitely change and the special education teacher may then blog about her job.
Ann-Sophie, 21, studies cultural studies and politics in Lüneburg
Ann-Sophie came to blogging through an internship at a do-it-yourself magazine and has been running her blog since June 2011, where she writes about everything that has to do with making things yourself: “Crafts, knitting, sewing, just being creative - “That’s what fulfills me,” she says. Sometimes their studies also find their way into a post. “For example, there is a text in which I am upset about the unwillingness to give up seats on the bus to older people,” says Ann-Sophie. The focus, however, is on the creative instructions, which are very complex: “Take photos, formulate texts, sewing instructions sometimes include patterns,” she lists.
Joab, 30, studied culture and media management in Berlin until February
Making the cultural treasures of the big city accessible to a broad public – that was Joab's concern when he created the blog in October 2010. Since then, he has focused on the sometimes strange, sometimes everyday romantic or completely otherworldly pieces of paper that one discovers on street lamps, trees or fences. The blog on everyday cultural communication in a big city was a practical addition to the course, as topics such as culture, media and communication were also on the curriculum here. The emotional speeches to bicycle thieves, cuddly toy finders and the most beautiful girls of the Berlin night have been available as a book on the blog since 2012. “Budgie escaped. Color doesn’t matter – Curious paperwork” is the name of the work with which Joab fulfilled his dream of having his own book.
