"Trick or treat!" Halloween is getting closer and closer and is a real celebration not only for American students. However, the original festival to which the Halloween custom goes back is the Celtic “Samhain”. They celebrated October 31st of a year as early as the fifth century BC. BC, the Celtic New Year's Day. The Celts believed that on this day the world of the living meets and mixes with the world of the dead. Only on this day would the dead have a chance to take possession of the soul of a living person. This would be their only chance at life after death. People dressed up in terrible masks and paraded around loudly to avoid being recognized by the dead.
