A huge sandstorm hits the red planet, forcing the NASA base station there to undergo an emergency evacuation, which the crew manages to do - except for Mark Watney (Matt Damon), who is carried away and abandoned.
But miraculously, Watney survives and, thanks to ingenuity and technical know-how, manages to contact his team, who now launch a more than daring rescue mission under the leadership of Commander Lewis (Jessica Chastain). But getting to Watney at all takes four years and the station is only designed to last 31 days (luckily the man is a botanist)...
Like most (successful) cinema films at the moment, THE MARSIAN is based on Andy Weir's bestseller of the same name and this fact, combined with blockbuster guarantee Ridley Scott and star ensemble Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Chiwetel Ejofor etc. promises that The cinema ticket is definitely worth it!
