Manuel is studying film music!

Even when you're at school you're always asked the question: What do you want to be when you grow up? A banal question that is not that easy to answer for many schoolchildren and students. Should it be more theoretical or practical, humanities or natural sciences, with good job opportunities or an orchid course? Manuel was also confronted with exactly this problem during his high school years. After some thought, he decided to follow his passion: Manuel is now studying film music! It all started with a keyboard that Manuel was given as a gift from his parents as a small child and with his aversion to playing by notes. “I always wanted to do something of my own. “My first own tracks were created using the keyboard’s recording function,” the student remembers today. Even if he didn't know at the time that he wanted to do this professionally later on. For a long time he had the typical career wish of “something with media”, then he wanted to become a director because he loves films but above all the music in the films. Shortly before graduating from high school, he found out how exactly one becomes a film music composer and came across the musicube academy in Bonn, which offers a year of preparatory training for the entrance exam for the bachelor's degree in film music at the University of the Arts in Arnhem. He has been a student at the musicube academy since September 2014 and has been running his blog Manu.studiert.Filmmusik for about the same amount of time. “I thought to myself: Who knows a film musician who also blogs about his studies? "A gap in the market, so to speak, that I wanted to close, simply so that people can see what is possible today in terms of studies," says Manuel, explaining his motivation for the blog. He wants to inspire other students to follow their passion and not pure rationality. So far he has been blogging once or twice a week, and his entries are mostly about his everyday study life, what project he is currently working on, what new compositions he has composed and what else is going on. For example, the pitch and collaboration with students from LMU in Los Angeles, California. The American students each make a short documentary film and the German composers provide the soundtrack . When asked what he does when he's not studying or blogging, Manuel answers: "Then I go to the cinema and I listen to a lot of music. I’m also currently working on a script with a friend.” So it always comes back to the topics: film, cinema and music. It seems as if Manuel is turning his hobby into a career.
