Tuesdays at Ruby's

Ruby's actual name is Robien, but many people think the name is a man's name and that's why she calls herself Ruby. A few years ago she went through a phase in which she listened to the Rolling Stones on and off. At that time, she quickly chose the band’s song title “Ruby Tuesday” as her stage name. Some people may ask why a 24-year-old student of history and philosophy needs a stage name. In case the student in question is also a poetry slammer. Ruby blogs a lot about her life as a slammer on her blog RubysTuesday .

“I actually just wanted to call the blog Ruby Tuesday, but it was already taken on WordPress. That’s why I just tried around and eventually came across RubysTuesday”. The student decided on the name of her blog so quickly and easily. That was back in October 2012 and since then RubysTuesday has been collecting anecdotes from Ruby's life. She is currently documenting the progress of her bachelor's thesis on the topic of “Winston Churchill's portrayal in the New York Times” every day, with all the ups and downs.

There are ups and downs not only in her bachelor's thesis, but also in life and love. The 24-year-old also speaks or writes about these topics honestly and openly in her blog and in her slams. How it feels when the love of the other person suddenly disappears, but not yet really for you. What remains then is hope:

One blog entry is particularly close to her heart and it has nothing to do with her or her feelings. But with a general, social problem. With her article “ Pedophilia is not the same as child abuse ,” the slammer wants to draw attention to the fact that people are often judged far too quickly. So that this is not misunderstood: Ruby is against child abuse. She just wants to emphasize that pedophiles - like all other people - cannot help their sexual inclinations and therefore “should not be viewed as monsters by the rest of society”. After all, the tendency itself is not a crime, but rather just pursuing it. “In general, people should treat each other with more respect and admiration. This ranges from this extreme case to small things in dealing with the people you meet every day. “A smile can often change so much,” says Ruby.

The general message of her blog could perhaps be summarized as follows: It goes up and it goes down; Life may not always be great, but that is never a reason to despair. Or in the words of the Rolling Stones: “Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind” (Ruby Tuesday). At least every Tuesday - with Ruby - you could remind yourself of that.
