About red cheeks, birds and do-it-yourself!
It's cold outside and Christmas is just around the corner again. No other time of year is as good for crafting and crafting as the run-up to Christmas. And that's exactly why our blog of the month for December is also a DIY blog. The 25-year-old doctoral studentSarah has been knitting, crocheting, cutting and gluing with great attention to detail in her blog Rotkehlchen since 2011. As you browse, you'll definitely find one or two Christmas gift ideas that you can easily make yourself using the helpful step-by-step instructions.
Sarah describes herself as a “hand person” because her fingers rarely stand still and she always has a current DIY project on the go. Whether it's knitting, crocheting, or working with paper and jewelry, she needs the creative balance to her studies. Since October she has been a doctoral student in art didactics at the PH Ludwigsburg and previously studied art, German and English to become a secondary school teacher. Sarah wanted to be a teacher when she was still a student herself. She completed her first internship at a primary school in the 10th grade. Since then, she has known that she would like to help children and young people develop their creative potential in the future. So it's good that she is also a creative person herself. She has been continuously proving this with her blog Rotkehlchen for over two years.
When asked why her blog is called Robin , her cheeks start to light up and somehow the name explains itself. Sometimes Sarah is embarrassed that her cheeks turn red as soon as she gets a little excited, tired, exhausted, bored , strained, nervous, cold or hot. But she made a virtue out of necessity and declared her red cheeks to be her trademark and so the robin became the mascot not only for her, but also for her blog. That's why the blog's robin always carries a few red feathers with him.
Sarah started blogging in 2010 when she was doing a semester abroad in America. She wanted to keep her friends and family back home in Germany up to date. When the semester abroad was over, she had already gotten so used to sharing experiences and impressions that she didn't want to miss out on it back in Germany. Without further ado, she launched Rotkehlchen at the beginning of 2011 and hasn't regretted it yet. Because the blog is not a burden for her. Sarah only ever blogs as much as she can fit into the time. That's why sometimes nothing happens on your blog for weeks and sometimes a lot happens. It just depends on whether she is currently on vacation or has exam stress. And creativity cannot be forced either; there are high and low phases.
A few semesters ago, Sarah realized for the first time that her blog was actually being read. During a lecture, she suddenly approached a fellow student, whom she only knew casually, somewhat intimidatedly and said: “ Sarah, I don't know how to say it, but I read your blog! I suddenly came across it while clicking around on the internet and recognized you straight away! “. And other people have already become aware of the 25-year-old. Three of her projects were recently printed in a DIY book and before that, she worked for a jewelry designer's online shop for a while.
Sarah is a passionate blogger for whom blogging is not just about self-expression, but about a communal attitude to life. That's why she enjoys reading other people's blogs as long as they are unique, original or creative in some way. And so at the end there is a quote from Sarah, simply because it sums up blogs, blogging and the associated attitude to life so beautifully:
“Blogs give us an insight into other people's lives, they show us things that other people own or make or that other people are involved with. This takes place on a very personal and private level, which usually speaks to you directly and to which you can also react directly (scroll further/click away) or reply (comment). You can read blogs whose authors are in the same life situation as you (e.g. studying) and who have the same resources. Blogs therefore speak to you much more directly than a magazine, for example, ever could. I also find blogs and the authors behind them to be very innovative and creative.”
