WBS residence permit
The housing entitlement certificate, or WBS for short, entitles you to use rent-subsidized housing. The apartment is therefore subsidized by public funds. This can save you a lot on rental costs.
You can apply for the WBS at your local housing office or citizens’ office. It is issued if your income is below a certain income limit. This varies from city to city.
As a rule, a single “room” is granted per person. If you are looking for a place to stay alone, you can get a 1-room apartment with the WBS. If you want to set up a shared apartment, each co-tenant needs a separate WBS. A 3-room apartment can then be rented for 3 people.
