It seems as if our population doesn't just consist of fast food junkies who don't value good nutrition: burger giants like McDonald's and Burger King have been struggling with lower sales and fewer customers for a long time.
Young people in particular, especially students, pay attention to a balanced, healthy diet; more and more people are vegetarian or vegan. Of course, there are still fast food fans who can get a lot out of a quick snack, but then it should consist of healthy, fresh and, if possible, regional or organic products.
We have listed a few shops for you that offer exactly that.
Vapiano and Dean & David focus on healthy and fresh
The two German companies can be found in countless cities and countries. While Vapiano uses fresh ingredients for pizza and pasta and prepares them live for you on site, Dean & David basically follows the same principle. But instead of Italian food, you can enjoy healthy salads, soups, sandwiches and curries, cooked fresh every day.
Burger competition for McDonald's and Co.
More and more burger shops are springing up in Germany, but they have little in common with the classic American calorie bombers: the focus here is on fresh local ingredients, vegetarian and novel creations. Shiso Burger in Berlin combines Asian and American cuisine, Holy Burger in Munich sources its organic meat from the Hermannsdorfer Landstätten.
The Hans im Glück chain does not offer organic meat, but it does offer fresh products and regional ingredients as well as vegetarian or vegan burgers. Passau students, on the other hand, can enjoy the Second Home , which is highly recommended: here all the furniture is made of eco-friendly material and the burgers taste fantastic: everything is organic, fresh and from the region.
Franchise chains have to get up to speed
In the wake of this trend, the traditional burger chains are trying to follow suit, most recently McDonald's with the McB., the franchise's first organic burger. Unfortunately, only the beef is organic and it is only a promotional product, meaning it is not offered permanently. There is still a lot of catching up to do!
