Friederike Beyer is a qualified aerospace engineer. She completed the German Trainee Program of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and now works as a systems engineer at ESA's European Space Research and Technology Center (ESTEC) in the Netherlands.
»As a student of aerospace engineering, my goal was to work for the European Space Agency (ESA). The German Trainee Program (GTP) of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) gave me the opportunity to fulfill my dream as a young engineer. As a trainee, I worked at ESA's Concurrent Design Facility (CDF) for two years. Space missions are planned here and their feasibility is examined. I particularly enjoyed working in an international and multi-disciplinary team, as well as the variety of technical topics. As a systems engineer, I investigated e.g. B. Space missions to the Moon and Mars, for earth observation and for exploring space. The diversity of the technical content and the environment means that I can now familiarize myself with new topics very quickly and approach new challenges more calmly. Particularly exciting for me were projects in which I was able to work with space organizations from other countries, including NASA (USA), Roscosmos (Russia) and JAXA (Japan). But even on a small scale, the time was always exciting. I have met former astronauts several times and listened enthusiastically to their experiences. I would also like to be a systems engineer in space travel in the future. Who knows, maybe at some point in a leading position on your own mission…”
