Just a few years ago, trainee programs only existed in a few industries and the word was largely unknown. Today, many corporations as well as medium-sized and small companies offer this form of career entry. Including Edeka. Lukas Skwiercz was a trainee there until recently and talks about his experiences here.
“To combine my enthusiasm for numbers and food in one job – that was my goal during my business studies. That's why I decided on the finance and accounting trainee program at the EDEKA headquarters in Hamburg. During the 18-month program, I not only got to know controlling in depth, but also the processes and procedures in an independent EDEKA store, in a wholesaler and at Netto Marken-Discount. These different assignments and experiences were very important for my current work because I developed a good understanding of how the EDEKA network and retail work. I have also developed personally: I have learned to quickly familiarize myself with new tasks and to take on responsibility both in day-to-day business and in project work. Another highlight was our joint trainee project: We developed a concept that offers customers optimized access to information about the origin of various foods. At the end, we presented these ideas to a group of managers.”
Lukas Skwiercz completed the finance and accounting trainee program at EDEKA. Today he works as a controller in the Investments/Controlling division. Lukas completed his master's degree in Management & Controlling at the Leuphana University of Lüneburg.
