Many students work on their homework during the semester break. You no longer have to go to the library for this, because with a laptop and the internet you can study pretty much anywhere. We visited four students at their unusual places of learning.

Delia and Johannes in bed
Delia (25), Bachelor of Communication Design
Will you come to bed with me? I'm staying in bed all day today! The puns that can be made with the name of the coworking space “The Bed” are varied and the other founders chose this one precisely for the sake of puns. They also wanted to create a place where you feel comfortable. And where would you rather be than in bed? In general, in “bed” you get the feeling of being in a shared apartment with friends. It's a bit like that, just in a very large shared apartment. There are around 20 workplaces here, which are mainly used by students, but also by a make-up artist, a writer, various freelancers and Mr. Popel and Ms. Bärchenwurst, the “bed” cats. “I really like working here because I want to work freely and still be able to exchange ideas with other people,” says Delia, who is currently working on her bachelor’s thesis on “Visual Alternative Worlds” in “Bed”.

Painted at Digital Eatery
Malte (26), Master of Business Administration
One morning at 9 a.m. we meet Malte in Microsoft's Digital Eatery, a mixture of café and showroom. The 26-year-old doesn't seem to be a morning person because, despite the early hour, he has already done a bit of work for his master's thesis. If he wasn't so disciplined, his thesis on “performance marketing” probably wouldn't work. A year ago, Malte set up her own business with a few friends. This year they want to bring the “Cringle” app onto the market, which will make it possible to pay with friends using a smartphone. This takes up a lot of time, so full days in the library are few and far between for Malte. It happens much more often that, like today, he stops by a café before or after work, takes out his laptop and starts hitting the keys.

Tobias down by the water
Tobias (21), Bachelor of English and History
“I hate sitting inside all day, and after all, I can write anywhere,” answers Tobias when asked why he is working on his internship report on the banks of the Spree, of all places. All he needs is his laptop and it fits into his backpack without any problems. Until recently he was in Amsterdam for a semester abroad and is currently doing an internship at a publishing house. So that late summer doesn't completely pass him by while he's sitting in the office, he likes to go to the water during his lunch break or after work to get some fresh air, watch the tourist boats and maybe even have a drink to put another sentence on paper.

Ricarda above the roofs of the city
Ricarda (26), Master of German Studies
To meet Ricarda, we first have to run to the fifth floor, ring the bell of her friends, climb through a window and then climb some more. However, the view we have afterwards definitely makes up for the little climb. We can see for kilometers above the rooftops of Berlin, we are right in the middle of the action and yet somehow not. Because more than 20 meters above the ground it is incredibly quiet. And that's exactly what Ricarda, who is currently working on a term paper on Uwe Timm's novel "Red", appreciates about this workplace: "Nothing distracts me here and I don't have to go to university in my free time. I also need a creative environment; in the library I often just stare into space.”
