What do you need to consider so that your studies in Passau can really get off to a smooth start? We'll give you the best tips to make studying in Passau easy!
O week – you will be helped there
It is essential for every new student in Passau: the orientation week, which takes place one week before the start of the semester. General and subject-specific information events, guided tours, individual and group consultations and informal meetings to get to know each other are offered here.
For more information, you can read our article Studying in Passau: O-Week for first-year students; you can find the program of the various faculties here .
Study-accompanying internet support for face-to-face teaching – or Stud.IP for short
The campus management system with the awkward name will be your constant companion as long as you study in Passau. Here you log in with your ID, which you receive by mail, and register for courses. Always pay attention to the registration deadlines! Sometimes you have to sit at the PC ten minutes in advance and constantly update, because courses often fill up extremely quickly and places are in short supply - so it's not uncommon to say: Wait until next semester or even year!
General information about Stud.IP can be found here as well as videos about the user interface , searching for events and the registration process if you don't have time for an on-site workshop .
Module and examination organization system HISQIS
We'll spare you what the abbreviation stands for, but what's more important is why it is essential for your studies in Passau: Every semester there is a certain period in which you have to register for your exams - it's best to note the date, because the Profs are very strict and not exactly accommodating! Via HISQIS you can log in with your ID, register and deregister for exams, view your grades or ECTS points achieved and print out certificates.
Your constant companion – the CampusCard
The former MensaCard was replaced this year by the CampusCard , i.e. a combination of multifunctional card AND personalized student ID (goodbye, anonymous paper student ID without a photo!). You need the card to be able to pay in the canteen or cafeterias, to copy and print, for the lockers, for the underground car park, as a semester ticket - i.e. for everything that a student in Passau will use. You apply for the card via Stud.IP, you can find a detailed description here .
Study and work in Passau
Being a new student also means taking on personal responsibility, i.e. keeping your apartment in good condition, cooking and, if you don't get an unlimited amount of student loans, working part-time. The various chairs always offer HiWi jobs and are looking for student assistants, just take a look at thejob offers . There are even more advertisements on the Career Service job board , working student jobs, (abroad) internships, etc. You'll definitely find what you're looking for there and if not, pay attention to word of mouth - jobs are often passed on freely and without advertising.
