Press release
the University of Applied Sciences Mainz
From Saturday, September 28th, 2013, the renowned and award-winning exhibition “Moving Types - Letters in Motion” will be on display in the Dortmunder U until March 2nd, 2014, after its launch in Mainz and Schwäbisch Gmünd. The opening will take place on Friday, September 27, 2013 at 7 p.m.
Not only pictures, but also letters learned to move in the film. “Moving Types” presents over 100 years of moving typography with internationally important examples. In addition to short and children's films, opening and closing credits or film excerpts such as from "Winnie the Pooh", "Delicatessen" or the Oscar-winning short film "Logorama", there are also purely computer-animated letter worlds. International artists and designers such as Oskar Fischinger, Muriel Cooper, Ludovic Houplain and Alex Gopher are represented. The heart of the exhibition is the “media lounge”, in which the countless information appears to float in space on around 300 glowing cubes with QR codes. The film exhibits can be read and viewed using iPads provided. An interactive “media facade” in the U’s loudspeaker, a catalog with a “built-in cinema” and an accompanying creative program for children and young people complete the exhibition.
The media exhibition “Moving Types – Lettering in Motion” was conceived, designed and implemented by the z zg – Center for Time-Based Design, a network of the img of the Mainz University of Applied Sciences (Prof. Anja Stöffler) and the HfG Schwäbisch Gmünd (Prof. Ralf Dringenberg) in cooperation with the Gutenberg Museum Mainz (Dr. Annette Ludwig), as part of “City of Science 2011”. Curated by Prof. Ralf Dringenberg, Prof. Anja Stöffler and Prof. em. Harald Pulch.
“Moving Types” takes place as part of the New Industries Festival.
An interactive catalog is available for the Moving Types exhibition.
