My dream job: fiction and reality
I think I'm one of the few lucky people who knew fairly early in life what their dream job would look like. While the general trend among girls was towards being a veterinarian or a princess, I've always had a very special soft spot for books - especially Harry Potter - and actually for texts of all kinds. That's why I knew: He must have something to do with writing, my future dream job. This wish actually lasted until the end of my school days - hence the beginning (and completion) of my studies in the field of German.
Why German Studies?
Language as such fascinates me - you can do so much with it, even if it sounds unspectacular at first glance, but it is multi-faceted, diverse and our favorite means of communication. Especially currently, thanks to social media & Co., our communication and its use have changed significantly: But how exactly and, above all, why? Questions like these interest me, so I know that for once I did everything right with my choice of study.
Fiction? Reality!
What surprised me most was that the fiction I had about being a journalist was very close to reality. My internship in an editorial office was the purest revelation: This is where I belong, I enjoy it, time flies - this is the dream job I want to do. No “oh no, it’s Monday again”, overtime isn’t an issue because it’s just incredible fun. I really wish everyone a dream job like this!
Looking for your dream job: Gaining your first practical experience
Unfortunately, it doesn't always work that easily: a dream, a job. Many people still need some time to discover their dream job, especially during the orientation phase. It's completely normal to experience changes in perspective and sometimes go in the wrong direction: How else are you supposed to find out whether the study/job you've started is the right path for you? Answer the following questions to yourself – absolutely honestly and directly:
- What do I really enjoy in my life?
- What thing/hobby could I do for hours without getting bored?
- What am I really good at?
The answers to these questions could be the first clues to point you in the right direction. It is unlikely that it will work the first time. That's why: Just try out a few experiences until you find your dream job.
