Art colleges

Art colleges are largely specialized in the artistic sector, such as: performing arts, music, design, architecture. Artistic development projects are the top priority of art schools. In order to gain access to studying at the art university, you usually have to prove that you have a special artistic talent in an admissions process.

Vocational Academy

The vocational academy offers courses with a high degree of practical relevance. The theoretically based training at the vocational academy is combined with practical block units in a company. Similar to a training contract, the practical part is completed in a company, which usually co-finances the entire training, which is why the chances of being hired after completing your studies are very high. The degrees awarded by the academies are state-run and therefore differ from the academic degrees awarded at technical colleges and universities.

technical colleges

Universities of Applied Sciences are universities that combine research and teaching with application-oriented units. Many technical colleges are also called 'colleges of applied sciences'. The scientific content is often supplemented by internships in order to combine science and practice. A key difference to universities is that universities of applied sciences do not have the right to award doctorates or habilitations.

Universities

Universities are universities where knowledge is primarily conveyed in a theoretical, scientifically sound manner. The focus is on research, teaching and studying, with the aim of enabling students to obtain a science-related professional qualification. What is characteristic of universities is academic self-administration as well as the right to award doctorates and habilitations, which enables them to train doctoral students and appoint professors.
Universities are characterized by a wide selection of subjects - especially at mass universities. As a rule, there is no regular timetable for students in university subjects. They often have to put together their timetable on their own initiative based on the examination regulations, depending on the courses on offer. Due to the uniform structuring of study programs within the framework of the Bologna Process, the free choice of students with regard to the structuring and in-depth study content was very limited.

There are many different types of universities. The different types are explained to you here.
