Simply a good alternative - even after completing your bachelor's degree.
When you step from school into working life, the question arises: Would you rather study, have a “typical” apprenticeship or go straight into the job after completing your bachelor’s degree? Training to become an air traffic controller can be particularly valuable as an additional option to traditional career paths.
Take responsibility and show the way.
Many people have a rough idea of what an air traffic controller does - but almost no one knows exactly: Air traffic controllers monitor and manage air traffic day and night.
As an air traffic controller, you work hand in hand with the pilots. Even if the pilot controls the aircraft, your instructions are important, for example regarding heading and altitude specifications.
Of course, this wouldn’t be possible without the right technical equipment. As an air traffic controller, you will be supported by highly specialized radar and computer systems.
An experienced air traffic controller masters these systems in his sleep and is able to make the right decision at any time - and pass it on precisely to the cockpit.
As you can see, it's about a maximum of responsibility that is rewarded with a large portion of trust.
Step by step: the training.
So that as a prospective air traffic controller you always draw the right conclusions and always give the correct instructions, you collect equal parts knowledge and experience. Your training is divided into a broad theoretical basis and exciting “on the job” training.
A special job for strong personalities.
Air traffic control requires experts who combine mental strength with communication skills and physical fitness. Are you ready?
The basics:
- You are not older than 24, you already have your high school diploma and/or a bachelor's degree in your pocket - or you are on the home stretch towards graduation
- You would like to leave your current study path and take a new direction
- You had English up to your Abitur or, alternatively, you have the C1 certificate
Physical and medical suitability:
- 100% vision, perfect color vision and unrestricted hearing
- For glasses or contact lenses, the deviation must be less than +5 / -6 diopters
- Chronic illnesses such as diabetes can represent a medical exclusion criterion
Your strengths speak for you:
- Of course you still remember what you did this morning at 8:23 a.m. - your (short-term) memory is simply first class
- No matter whether it's about objects or a wide variety of distances - you score points with good spatial imagination, two and three dimensions
- Whatever you do, you are always highly concentrated and always remain in focus - distractions have no chance against your selective hearing
Last but not least, your personality is important:
- Strong sense of responsibility
- Level-headed team player and number cruncher
- Precise comprehension and decision-making skills
- A high degree of flexibility, including when it comes to working in shifts
- Willingness to participate in a background and security check
A little decision-making aid:
- Only 1.5 years of theoretical training up to “on the job” training
- Responsible tasks right from the start, as part of a collegial community
- Attractive remuneration from the start of training and throughout all phases of training
- Theory and practice in balance: a good mix of lessons and simulation exercises
- Support from experienced specialists throughout the entire training
