Freshmen

The first semester

As - briefly referred to as - freshmen, you are one of the new ones at the university in your first semester. Freshers usually don't have it easy - everything is new and it quickly takes a whole semester to get used to it.

How can you get started easier?

The trial university

If you are not yet clear in advance about what you want to study, take a look at the introductory courses at your university. These preliminary courses offer you the opportunity to get a first impression of the subject matter and student life. This can make it easier for you to decide whether the material or the teaching methods are your thing or not.

Your student council

The student council of your institute represents the interests of your institute. He not only provides you with the latest information about university policy, but also provides you with advice and support, especially with regard to orientation before starting your studies.

The student councils usually offer an orientation week - often in cooperation with the relevant institutes. This O-phase, which usually takes place a week before the start of university, is intended to help you get used to the new rooms and lecturers. There is usually a round of introductions by the institute members, with an outlook on what awaits you in the near future. These orientation days are rounded off with tours of the university and/or library and in the new city. Even if you have problems choosing your courses or building your timetable, the student council is always there to help you.
