Trends and careers: Voices from the automotive industry
Annalena Grobe, Central Human Resources Management at Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze
The automotive industry is undergoing significant change. Changing consumer behavior, ever-increasing demands regarding resource conservation and reduction of CO2 emissions, the further development of modern networked communication and advancing globalization present everyone involved with new challenges.
These changes should be understood as an opportunity, especially in the future fields of electromobility, lightweight construction and information and communication technology. Of course, suppliers are also asked to develop innovative ideas and explore new paths.

Joey Despang, industrial engineering student and intern at Audi
Audi offers aspiring industrial engineers an incredibly diverse and challenging field of activity and combines unique vehicle design with pioneering technologies. I am completing my internship in the cross-sectional department in the production area, where I support the product planning process, for example. It's a lot of fun to be part of a team that works on such fascinating products. I find the mediating function between the areas of technology and business extremely interesting.

Ulf Hansen, industrial engineer and trainee at Volkswagen
I have always been fascinated by cars and automobile manufacturing. After completing my studies, I applied to Volkswagen for the internationally oriented StartUp Cross trainee program, which runs for 18 months. Each trainee is supported by a management mentor. The program includes six to eight week project assignments in different areas of the company - from development to sales. This is how I prepare myself for my future work in logistics. I complete most of my assignments at the company headquarters in Wolfsburg. I will also be working at Audi in Neckarsulm for several weeks and I am particularly excited about my three-month assignment abroad at Volkswagen de México. For me, the program is a unique experience that I recommend to all university graduates who are passionate about cars.
