Most people are probably familiar with this: the exam phase is approaching and you not only have to study for the exams, but also write some academic papers. But motivation is limited. Many people also find it difficult to focus on work within their own four walls. Suddenly, cleaning up your shared apartment seems much more attractive than sitting in front of your laptop for hours. So that you can successfully complete your exams at the end of the semester, we have tips for you on how to set up a perfect workplace in your student apartment.
The right climate
In order to be able to concentrate properly, you need to ensure that the room climate is comfortable. Because stuffy air makes you feel tired, weak and exhausted. Make sure the temperature in your room is between 19 and 22 degrees . The air quality of the room also affects the ability to concentrate. Air that is too dry or contaminated by pollen, house dust or carbon dioxide makes you feel tired and can no longer focus on what is important. It is therefore important that you ventilate regularly to provide your room with fresh air. In addition, an electric air washer can help regulate the room air (for example the humidity) and reduce the amount of pollen or allergens . Green plants also ensure better air because they filter out pollutants.
Keep order
A tip so that you are not even tempted to deal with your apartment chaos instead of sitting down at your desk: Make sure that the room in which you work is already tidy before you start writing your homework Get started. Also, try to keep your desk as clear as possible. Decorations or piles of paper only confuse your thoughts. All you need is your laptop, a pad, a pen and a bottle of water - so you can concentrate on what's important.
Sit correctly
But it's not just a tidy desk that's important, but the type of desk. In order to be able to work with concentration, you need to be able to sit comfortably without harming your posture or your eyes. Therefore, the height of the desk should be optimally adapted to your height. Furthermore, the table should be wide and deep enough - a depth of at least 80 centimeters and a width of 160 centimeters is recommended. You can tell that your desk chair is the right height because your feet can rest flat on the floor and the seat height is approximately the same height as the backs of your knees. Also make sure there is enough light at work to protect your eyes.
Work more efficiently with regular breaks
In addition to the working environment, the way you work also determines how productive you are. It may seem tempting to sit comfortably at your desk in your pajamas. However, it is purely psychologically advantageous to start work in your everyday clothes. This will help you get into “work mode” quicker. In order to work as efficiently as possible, it is also worth setting fixed times in which you can work with concentration and without distraction. To do this, set a timer for 30 minutes. As soon as the time is up, you can make yourself a new cup of coffee in the kitchen, have a quick chat with your roommate or take a deep breath in and out on the balcony. Give yourself a short break of five to a maximum of ten minutes and then sit at your desk again with high concentration for 30 minutes.
