The most exciting courses from all subject areas
There are degree programs, and then there are degree programs: You will definitely have come across the “normal versions” such as teaching, Romance studies, computer science and many others. But how about a really cool course of study that isn't offered by default at every university? We present you with a range of courses from different subject areas that you have most likely never seen before. We will also tell you in which city you can study the respective course. Have fun with our hit list selection!
Courses from the department: Linguistics
In addition to linguistics, modern German literature and more, there are also real underdogs in the field of linguistics that you definitely have to get to know (and maybe try out?).
Interpreting/Translating
Interpreting, more technically precise: Translation studies are exactly the right thing for you if you are a true language artist and are interested in the precise transfer of meaning and meaning from a source language into a target language. Get to know the differences between spoken and written language and what it means not to translate 1:1, but above all in a meaningful and meaningful way. A basic requirement that you should bring with you: high language skills and a feeling for language in general, preferably some initial experience up to fluent knowledge of several languages.
You can study interpreting and translating in Mainz, for example, but also in Munich or Berlin and other cities .
Neurolinguistics
Neuroscience, particularly neurolinguistics, is a very promising and relatively new field of study. Studying neurolinguistics or clinical linguistics or speech pathology is primarily about examining the connection between natural, everyday language processing and the human brain. Neurolinguists are in greater demand than ever: With their help, we can help restore language after aphasia (after a stroke) and much more.
You can study this course in Munich, Freiburg, Salzburg, Potsdam, Bielefeld, Marburg or Bochum, among others.
Department: Computer Science
The field of computer science is in greater demand than ever: With the emergence of artificial intelligence and digitalization in general, there is a great need for innovative and subject-specific courses, especially in this area, to train those who drive digitalization forward. We will now introduce you to the most exciting courses in the field of computer science.
Robotics, Cognition, Intelligence
This Master's degree program is unique in Germany and is only offered at the Technical University of Munich. The aim of the course is to gain insights into the three subject areas. Practical work with robots to advance the field of artificial intelligence as well as the operation and development of cognitive systems and their interactive design are just a few of the challenges that the students should devote themselves to. One thing is certain: This course of study is absolutely future-proof and extremely exciting and offers you a wide range of specialization options - whether in aerospace engineering, computer science or the automotive sector.
This master's degree is only available at the TU Munich.
Computational linguistics
Cortana, Siri, Alexa - they all have one thing in common: the combination of linguistic expression and computer science. This course is also a department that combines language and computer science, but in a way that the world has only recently become familiar with. Artificial intelligence is also the key focus here, particularly the processing of natural languages in a machine-like manner to improve language technology and data mining.
You can study this course in Munich, Heidelberg, Potsdam and other cities, for example.
Autonomous systems
And here too it is clear that the trend is towards the autonomization of intelligent machines - this course also promises a secure job and a wide range of specialization opportunities. The core of the course is to gain basic knowledge about the adaptability and implementation of autonomous systems in everyday life.
You can study this master's degree program at TU Darmstadt .
Department: History and Art Studies
There are also exciting specialization courses in this normal subject area that you definitely have to get to know.
Applied leisure sciences
This course of study falls more into the area of "art" and is the most bizarre course of study in our list so far: At first it sounds like you can't do anything with it, but appearances are very deceptive: Possible perspectives after successfully completing this course of study are, for example, in the areas of event and tourism management, but also wellness consulting. As part of your studies, you will learn how people like to spend their free time - and you can then put the knowledge you have acquired into practice.
This course is only available at the Bremen University of Applied Sciences .
Byzantine studies
This course deals with the culture, language, religion and other areas of the Eastern Roman Empire. In this special subject area, students learn everything there is to know about the historical hub of Byzantium (today's Istanbul). Particular attention is paid here to the relationship between Christians and Jews since late antiquity as well as the Byzantine relationship to Islam. A very exciting course of study for anyone interested in history.
You can study Byzantine studies, for example at Munich's LMU or the Free University of Berlin.
Department: Medicine
In the field of medicine, in addition to the classics of psychology, pharmacy and others, there are some courses that you would certainly describe as “crazy”.
Vegan food management
Yes, you read that right: From the winter semester of 2016/17, this course can be studied for the first time in Germany at the medium-sized universities of applied sciences in Cologne, Bielefeld and Bamberg . As the name suggests, this course of study deals with alternative forms of nutrition, but is by no means limited to those who are vegan themselves - as the trend is increasingly towards this type of diet, it is worth examining the topic thoroughly.
Public Health
An alternative to studying medicine, which often deters many applicants due to the extremely high NC, is the public health course, which deals with population medicine and healthcare in general. It is a master's degree program that requires a bachelor's degree and can often be completed in just three semesters, for example at the Hanover Medical School.
You can also study this course in Berlin, Munich and many other renowned universities in Germany.
Whether leisure science or vegan food management – we will introduce you to the most innovative courses of the future.
