The house work
At some point almost everyone has to go and do a term paper - or bachelor's/master's thesis. To help you keep track, we have a few tips for you.
layout
Depending on the topic, the work can be between 10 and 60 pages long. You will usually receive the instructions for this from your supervisor. It is important that the quantitative page number information always refers to the pure written pages without the scientific apparatus. The scientific apparatus consists of a cover sheet, table of contents, list of literature, images and sources, and, if necessary, an affidavit.
The standard values for your homework, unless otherwise specified, should be: Times New Roman, 12-point, 1 ½ lines, left about 2 cm margin, right about 3 cm margin, justified. The page numbers, starting from the text pages, must be present. Flawless German is expected as well as linguistic and stylistic quality.
outline
1. Cover page
The cover sheet should contain the following information:
- University and institute name
- Event title/semester
- Name of the lecturer
- Name and student number of the author
2. Table of Contents
The table of contents should reflect the structure of the work. Here the chapter headings are presented in a structured manner with page numbers (decimal).
3. Introduction
The introduction introduces the topic and states the question, the approach and the objective.
4. Main part
The main part is logically divided into several sections that build on each other. Above all, objectivity and intersubjective verifiability are important. Subjective expressions of opinion, such as “I think…” should be avoided. Theses that you interpret must be supported by passages in the text.
5. End
Finally, the results are summarized and any questions that remain unanswered are identified.
6. Bibliography
The bibliography lists all works used and cited in the work. It should reflect the current state of research
7. Written insurance
The written assurance states that you completed the work yourself and did not use any other sources other than those named. It is formulated as follows:
“I assure that I have completed this written term paper (seminar paper)
I wrote it independently and did not use any tools other than those I specified. The parts of the work that were taken from other works in terms of wording or spirit were in each case identified, citing the sources (including the World Wide Web and other electronic text and data collections). This also applies to accompanying drawings, pictorial representations, sketches and the like. I am aware that any violation is considered an attempt to deceive, which excludes the recognition of the homework as proof of achievement and can result in further appropriate sanctions.”
