The study place is secured and the printouts on paper come with your studies. Printouts at university or in a copy shop are usually very cheap. However, there are some advantages that speak for having your own printer. Independence is certainly a main argument. Copy shops and the university are bound to opening hours. However, with your own printer you can sometimes print out your homework just before the deadline and in the middle of the night.
The all-rounder for students
If you have already spent the money on the printer, at best it can be a little more. How about a multifunction printer, for example? These are real all-rounders that print naturally. However, you can also copy or scan if necessary. Sometimes even faxing. And it's hard to believe: the seemingly old-fashioned fax is still used from time to time.
Inkjet printer or the laser version?
In contrast to the inkjet printer, the laser printer is significantly more expensive to purchase. However, the toner required is significantly more productive and thus the printing costs are minimized. Laser printers will establish themselves in the long term. In addition, laser printers are nothing to sneeze at when it comes to speed. They run at a significantly higher speed than inkjet printers. Another advantage: durability. The toner is essentially burned into the paper. The disadvantage of laser printers is the power consumption. The average consumption is 500 watts. For inkjet printers it is only around 13 watts.
The inkjet printer has very low acquisition costs at around 50 euros. Inkjet printers are also usually small and handy. So you can quickly find space in smaller (student) rooms. Inkjet printers deliver extremely high print quality and are particularly suitable for graphics students.
The disadvantage of inkjet printers is the high follow-up costs in the form of printer cartridges. In addition, the ink can dry out relatively quickly. For example, if the device is not used over the semester break, it is necessary to print out test pages regularly. Once the cartridge has dried out, cleaning it turns out to be very laborious.
Additional practical (student) features
In times of environmental protection, it is worth thinking twice about purchasing devices. In keeping with this, some printers have WiFi (the corresponding interface) so that multiple users can connect to the printer. And the tiring tangle of cables is no longer necessary. This also means lower costs. The printers with duplex function are also very environmentally friendly. Printing on both sides makes the mountain of paper smaller and is environmentally friendly at the same time.
Your own printer while studying: A purchase for more freedom!
