Blogger of the month September

When autumn knocks!

The summer had been beautiful. But the look out of the window reveals more and more, slowly but surely autumn is knocking. When the weather outside is slowly becoming more uncomfortable, it's raining, windy and the sun isn't showing up quite as often, then this is the perfect opportunity to curl up on the couch and read a good book. Or a literary blog. Our current blog of the month, Autumn Knocks, is ideal for this not only because of its name, but also because of its narrative content.

Anyone who has ever lived in a shared apartment knows that the most absurd stories often happen there, that there is always something going on and that some events are too good to be left untold. That's exactly what 22-year-old Frida thought and launched her blog Herbstknocken in July of this year. There she tells all the stories that she experiences in her four-person student shared apartment ; all the funny, crazy and sometimes dramatic stories. Anecdotes that could probably happen in any shared apartment. Some of these can also be quite private stories and to be on the safe side, Frida got permission from her roommates and friends - who also appear repeatedly as protagonists in the blog - to tell them. “To protect them, I gave them all different names. I also don't mention what city we live in. “It doesn’t matter, it could be anywhere in Germany,” says Frida, who isn’t actually called Frida.

Frida likes to observe and look at people, events, cultures, etc. from different perspectives. That's why she decided to do a bachelor's degree in anthropology because she is fascinated by other people and cultures. She decided to study as a teenager when she was in Uganda. Thematically, her studies don't necessarily have much to do with her blog, except that she empathizes with other people and perspectives there. However, her blog entries are not scientific observations, but rather, as she says, influenced by her “blooming imagination”. Then a hiking vacation with friends quickly turns into the blueprint for a horror film in which she and her friends are pursued by an ax murderer.

When asked what her blog is about, the 22-year-old says: “It’s about student life in Germany.” Although this isn't necessarily reflected in the name of the blog Autumn Knocks , Frida doesn't want to restrict herself too much thematically with the name of the blog. After all, she is still relatively new to the blogosphere and doesn't yet know exactly how her blog will develop in the near future. She started blogging because, in addition to observing, writing is her great passion. She has been toying with the idea of collecting the stories from her everyday shared life, writing them down and eventually turning them into a book. When she told a friend about it, he gave her the idea of the blog and she now thinks it's even better than the idea of the book because it means she "doesn't have to keep collecting stories forever, she can just get started."

Frida doesn't have a favorite entry yet. However, a side effect of the blog became apparent that she hadn't noticed before. Her roommateEmma recently moved out of their shared apartment and now lives in another city. And even though she no longer shares the kitchen, toilet and wardrobe with Frida and the other roommates, she still knows what's going on with them and, despite the physical distance, isn't completely gone.

Frida would like to put a new post online once a week. She believes that this can be done in a relatively relaxed manner alongside her studies. Since her blog has only existed since the beginning of the semester break, blogging has had very little overlap with studying anyway. It remains to be seen what this will be like during the semester. And even if the plan doesn't work out and the entries go online more sporadically, the ones that make it onto the blog are definitely suitable for reading comfortably on the couch while autumn is knocking on the door outside.
