Already jumped over the axle today?
When the camera jumps across the viewer's line of sight during an interview, it is unusual and sometimes confusing. Such an axis jump can also reveal completely new perspectives that were not seen before. That's exactly what the four students Aurelia (26), Helene (23), Marion (23) and Sebastian (26) have set out to do with their video blog Achssprung and that's why they are our bloggers of the month for August 2014.
Most students complete academic work at the end of their studies; read, excerpt, think and then write 20, 30, 60 or 80 pages. Not the four axis jumpers , they preferred to do something practical, wanted to do something themselves, preferred to start a blog. And even before that, as blog editor Marion says, she had been itching to publish herself and work as a journalist. It was very convenient that in her studies of audiovisual media at the University of Media in Stuttgart, it was appreciated that final theses were practical projects. It also quickly became clear that it should be a video blog, because video formats and the Internet are the future and bring with them the most opportunities, the four bloggers are sure of that.
They learned the necessary tools for their blog during their studies and in various internships and although they are all studying the same thing, they have all set different priorities over the course of the semesters, which now complement each other wonderfully in the production of the blog: Marion and Helene are interested especially the journalistic approach, Aurelia is the camerawoman and Sebastian does everything that has anything to do with design. The result is a mixture of society, politics, culture and a bit of trash to lighten things up, always with a little friendly wink and without fear of jumping over your own shadow or being a bastard. And so sometimes people eat insect spreads , get on their bikes for Critical Mass , browse Primark with a hidden camera or try to read a piece of Die Zeit on their own .
The four are of the opinion that pretty much any topic can be made interesting, it just depends on the perspective - pardon the axis shift. And that's exactly how they write their editorial plan, they go through the world with their eyes open and ask themselves how the topic could be prepared differently and then it starts: research, go out into the world and talk to people, edit, design and that's it!
Helene is always in front of the camera as a reporter, she does all the things, tries things out and speaks to people on the street. What isn't always that easy for the 23-year-old: “In the beginning it always took a bit of effort for me to overcome, but I noticed that over time I became more and more relaxed and it became easier. I would say I've learned something new." In general, in the time they've been running the blog, they've had a lot of experiences that they probably wouldn't have had otherwise, met interesting people, went to exciting events and made lots of new ones tried things.
Since April of this year, the friends have been publishing small video reports on their blog and they have clearly tasted blood, because even though they officially submitted their bachelor's thesis at the end of August, they want to continue afterwards and enrich the blogosphere with their contributions.
