Get out of the seminar, put on your headphones and turn off the music – this is how you can really relax! It's best to turn it up loud so that every note flows directly into your brain. Your young ears can handle it, after all, you can hear really well and are still miles away from wearing hearing aids like your grandpa. But far from it - young people can also suffer hearing damage, which is why BARMER, the health insurance company for students, has launched a prevention initiative. You can find out what it's all about and how you can maintain your good hearing in our article.
BARMER and Mimi – teamwork for good hearing
In keeping with World Hearing Day on March 3rd, BARMER and Mimi Hearing Technologies launched an initiative for the early detection and prevention of hearing damage. These can now also be detected in young people, the reason for this is listening to music that is too loud. So that everyone can take part in hearing prevention, BARMER is the first health insurance company in Germany to support a major initiative on the topic of good hearing.
In cooperation with Mimi Hearing Technologies GmbH, which has developed two apps for the prevention of hearing damage, the student health insurance company is making the Mimi hearing test app and the Mimi Music app available for free download on Apple or Android devices from March to May 2017 . We will explain to you below how to use these apps.
How do the Mimi apps work?
With the help of the apps developed by Mimi Hearing Technologies, you can not only carry out a hearing test, but also adapt the music on your smartphone to your own hearing. This effectively prevents hearing damage and allows you to listen like a lynx for a long time.
Mimi hearing test app
Complete a hearing test using the Mimi hearing test app and find out how your individual hearing is and what your personal “hearing age” is. All you have to do is spend ten minutes on the following steps:
- Make yourself comfortable in a quiet place, put on high-quality headphones, plug them into your smartphone and start the Mimi hearing test app
- During the test, tones of different heights - in the range from 250 to 8000 Hertz - are played and you have to decide whether they occur in the left or right ear or indicate at what volume you hear a tone
- After the test, an evaluation will be carried out that will tell you your “hearing age” and the percentage hearing ability of your ears
Mimi Music app
Based on the results of the hearing test, you can now see how well you can hear the different sound frequencies. Accordingly, a filter is placed over your music in the Mimi Music app , which adapts it to your hearing ability. By amplifying the hearing frequency ranges in which you didn't do so well in the hearing test, you can hear better - but not louder.
- "Mimification" is a patented process that increases the volume of those frequencies that are harder for you to hear, while maintaining the same maximum volume
- You can even reduce the overall volume without hearing less or worse
- This means you not only hear better sound, but also healthier sound
You too can become active and protect your hearing by taking part in the BARMER prevention initiative! You can find further information on this topic directly from the student health insurance company .
BARMER recommends the Mimi apps for healthy hearing.
