Russian students about their everyday life, their dreams and Germany

Vodka, outdated technology and poor knowledge of foreign languages - clichés that are often found about Russian students. Our ideas about Russia and its students are vague. Aside from Moscow, Putin and the church, we know little about everyday life in the largest country in the world. UNIGLOBALE took a look around Kazan, the capital of the Republic of Tatarstan, and talked to Kazan students. They talk about their studies, their dreams, their media consumption and what drives them.

Sergei Shadybin

UNIGLOBALE: What are you studying?

S.Sch..: “I am studying sports management in my third year.”

UNIGLOBALE: Why are you learning German?

S.Sch..: “I have always liked the language and pronunciation. I have been learning German since the 5th grade at school. I used to often watch war films with my father and there were always a few German words in them. I kind of like the accent. I now attend German classes at the university on a voluntary basis. I find that fun."

UNIGLOBALE: What do you dream about?

S.Sch..: “In the future I would like to do something with sports. I play on the university soccer team and we train twice a week. We're pretty successful too. Football manager of a well-known football club like FC Bayern Munich – that would be a dream for me!”

UNIGLOBALE: What role does digitalization play in your life?

S.Sch..: She does play a role, but not a very big one for me. In Kazan, all my friends live close to each other. You can visit there pretty quickly. For me, my cell phone is more important than VKontakte (editor's note: Russian version of Facebook). For example, I often talk to my mother on the phone.
