That's what the film is about
With “Volt”, director and screenwriter Tarek Ehlail brings a contemporary thriller dystopia with clearly socially critical features to cinemas. There are scenarios and images of police violence, lawless slums full of refugees living in inhumane conditions in dilapidated makeshift homes, clashes between police, refugees and the state. A vision is presented that describes the near future: Germany is building the transit zones that have been discussed for a long time, the refugees housed there live in the worst possible conditions in a very small space. Police officer Volt (Benno Fürmann) kills the refugee Hesham during an operation - which of course heats up the already tense atmosphere even further. Despite silence from the investigating services, the incident has changed Volt: he spends more and more time in the transit zones, eventually making the acquaintance of an attractive young lady - Hesham's sister
That's what we say about the film
In “Volt”, Tarek Ehlail tries to visualize current socially critical objects and create a possible future scenario. The film is exciting, grueling and absolutely contemporary - but some of the dialogue between the police officers is very racist. With “Volt” Ehlail is clearly trying to express his political position, but this would also have had a much more subtle appeal.
