Germany 1958 - reconstruction, economic miracle. Johann Radmann (Alexander Fehling) has recently become a public prosecutor and, like all newcomers, has to take care of traffic offenses. When the journalist Thomas Gnielka (André Szymanski) causes a ruckus in the courthouse, his ears prick up: A friend of Gnielka has recognized a teacher as a former Auschwitz guard, but no one wants to take his complaint. Against the wishes of his direct superiors, Radmann begins to look into the case - and encounters a web of repression, denial and transfiguration. Some people have never heard of “Auschwitz” during these years, and others want to forget it as quickly as possible. Radmann goes on a search for the truth and gets deeper and deeper into a labyrinth of guilt and lies. But what he ultimately uncovers will change the country forever...
