The story
In the summer of 1961, the DEFA film studio in Potsdam-Babelsberg is a magical place, full of creative people who are in a spirit of optimism. Emil Hellwerk (Dennis Mojen) was recently released from the National People's Army (NVA) and is now standing in front of the venerable gates of the film production studio and has gotten a job as an extra thanks to his brother Alex (Ken Duken), who works there as a plasterer. Emil can't do much with the glamorous film world, but he doesn't have any alternatives either. One day on the film set he meets the French dancer Milou (Emilia Schüle), who he is immediately fascinated by. The happiness of the two seems perfect, but then the borders are closed and the two are torn apart. Emil comes up with a daring plan to get back to his Milou...
