The story
In her remote house, child psychologist Mary (Naomi Watts) devotes herself to caring for her son (Charlie Heaton), who is in need of care and has been completely paralyzed since a car accident. Her husband died in this accident, and since then the widow has limited her contact with the outside world to the bare minimum. Despite everything, she takes on a new patient, the orphan boy Tom (Jacob Trembley), and even offers him to move in with her for a while. She gains new courage to live from her contact with this boy, but on the first evening Tom disappears in a dangerous snowstorm and has been missing ever since. Suddenly, frightening things happen in Mary's house and she begins to doubt: Is Tom really dead?
