Online courses at elite universities
Study at a prestigious American university and not even leave your desk at home? The online learning platform edX makes it possible. The partner universities in the project are the three educational giants Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University and UC Berkeley. The courses offered (still free of charge) come from very different disciplines – from “computer science and programming” to “fundamentals of solid-state chemistry”. Video lectures, tutorials and a forum support the teaching of the material. After successfully completing the tests, you will receive a certificate at the end. You won't get the coveted Harvard degree, but you will get an extraordinary learning experience and a real eye-catcher on your resume.

Educational transfer Germany – Egypt
TU Berlin launches satellite campus
Germany and Egypt are moving closer together when it comes to education. The most current example is probably the new campus in El Gouna – a scientific branch of the TU Berlin. Since the winter semester of 2012/13, the master's degree programs “Energy Engineering”, “Urban Development” and “Water Engineering” have been offered here on the Red Sea. The research focus was based on urgent problems in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA region): the production of energy from renewable sources and the development of drinking water through desalination and recycling. The co-initiator of the project is Samih Sawiris, himself a TU graduate and now head of Egypt's largest tourism company.

New EU tuition fee guide
Where the semester abroad costs a lot or little
Many students choose to go to a foreign university at least once during their university career. The choice is often determined by the campus toll to be paid. A report by the EU Commission published in September 2012 provides a current price comparison. The absolute leader is the United Kingdom (England, Wales and Northern Ireland) with up to €11,500 per academic year. Popular destinations such as France, Italy and Portugal are in the middle range with €177 to €1,434 annually.

The new Chinese-German campus in Shanghai
The theme of “German” runs like a common thread through the history of Shanghai Tongji University. Its predecessor, the “German Medical School”, was founded in 1907 by the doctor Erich Paulun, and from the 1970s onwards the university developed into a “window to Germany” within the framework of scientific relationships. The Chinese-German University (CDH) has been on campus since March 2011, consisting of the Chinese-German University College (CDHK), the Chinese-German University of Applied Sciences (CDHAW) and the Chinese-German Institute for Vocational Training (CDIBB) . Students of technical subjects in particular find the best conditions here and can complete Bachelor's and Master's double degrees. There are currently 34 partnerships with German colleges and universities.
