The story
The sun rises over Kalokairi, the most magical of all the Greek islands. Since the events of MAMMA MIA! A few years have passed when Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) finds out that she is expecting a baby. She confides in her mother's best friends, Rosie (Julie Walters) and Tanya (Christine Baranski), and admits that she may not feel up to the responsibility. The two tell Sophie how her mother Donna met and fell in love with Sam, Harry and Bill under the Greek sun - and how, pregnant and on her own, she took her life into her own hands.
From songs to musicals to films – the phenomenon MAMMA MIA!
The song – Mamma Mia
The hook of the ABBA smash hit already predicts the phenomenon MAMMA MIA! you just can't resist. The song of the same name by the Swedish cult band conquered the world in 1975 and reached the top of the charts in Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, Australia and Costa Rica. But MAMMA MIA no longer “just” stands for the number 1 hit of the Swedish superstars.
The musical – how can I resist you?
MOMMA MIA! is also the name of the musical created by the two ABBA members Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. And how could it be otherwise with a piece that is based on 22 ABBA songs: Since its premiere in London in 1999, the musical MAMMA MIA! developed into one of the most successful in the world. Whether in Great Britain, the USA, Australia, Germany, Japan or (of course) Sweden, the two-act play was celebrated by audiences at all venues. Performed in 440 cities and in a total of 16 different languages, the musical has already thrilled more than 60 million viewers.
The film – how much I've missed you
The success story continued with the film adaptation MAMMA MIA!, which created a great atmosphere in cinemas in 2008. The story, set on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi, became a mega-hit, grossing over $600 million worldwide and was the most successful film of all time in Great Britain at the time.
It wasn't just the numerous ABBA classics that attracted viewers to the cinemas, but also the top-class cast who sang them themselves. In addition to Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried as the mother-daughter team, other stars such as Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Stellan Skarsgård as well as Christine Baranski, Dominic Cooper and Julie Walters rounded out the ensemble.
The sequel – Here we go again!
Almost 20 years after the premiere of the musical and 10 years after the movie, MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN to the next round! This time it's all about how relationships formed in the past influence the present. In addition to the well-known and popular stars from Part 1, Lily James (Cinderella, Baby Driver) can be seen this time as young Donna, while Alexa Davies (X+Y) and Jessica Keenan Wynn (Go Green) take on the roles of young Rosie and Tanya and Donna and the Dynamos complete. Young Sam is played by Jeremy Irvine (Fallen), while Bill and Harry are portrayed by Josh Dylan (Allied) and Hugh Skinner (Kill Your Friends).
But the most popular new addition to the MAMMA MIA! family is music icon Cher. The singer, known for global hits such as “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Believe”, expands the prominent cast. The legendary vocal prodigy not only enjoyed success as a singer, but also received an Oscar® nomination for Best Supporting Actress (1984 for Silkwood) and an Oscar® award for Best Actress (1988 for Moonstruck). The cast of MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN three Oscar® winners – Meryl Streep, Cher and Colin Firth.
Win at the cinema release of MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN on July 19th a great fan package!
