What is it about exactly?
A day like any other in the life of five-year-old Saroo: At the train station in the small Indian town where his brother left him for a few hours, he looks for coins and leftover food. Out of exhaustion, he finally falls asleep on a stopped train and, after a traumatic train journey, finds himself on the other side of the continent in Calcutta. Left to his own devices, he wanders the dangerous streets of the city for weeks until he ends up in an orphanage, where he is adopted by Sue (Nicole Kidman) and John Brierley (David Wenham), who give him a loving home in Australia. Many years later, Saroo lives in Melbourne, is professionally successful and lives with his girlfriend Lucy (Rooney Mara). He could be completely happy, but the question of his origins doesn't leave him alone. Night after night, he travels India's train network using Google Earth on his laptop, zooming in on hundreds of train stations and looking for clues to his former home and his biological family. He has almost given up hope when the unbelievable happens and he comes across a village on the internet that matches his memory...
