The story

The everyday life of Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson (Saoirse Ronan) in Sacramento, California consists of high school routine, family troubles and her first sobering experiences with boys. So it's no wonder that the 17-year-old dreams of fledging. In real life, she rebels with passion and stubbornness against the confines of her parents' home. But of course her mother (Laurie Metcalf) doesn't make it too easy for the headstrong, bright teenager to cut off his cord, and so both of them repeatedly pull out all the emotional stops between defiance, anger and resignation.

LADY BIRD's most quick-witted sayings

With Christine “Lady Bird” McPherson, Greta Gerwig, who not only directed but also wrote the screenplay for LADY BIRD, has created a young woman who is both charming and very quick-witted. Played by three-time Oscar® nominee Saoirse Ronan, the defiant teenager has something to say in every situation and doesn't mince his words. Here are her coolest sayings for all situations:

Lady Bird expects more from life than what the Sacramento of 2002 has to offer:

“The only exciting thing about 2002 is that it’s a palindrome.”

“I want to experience the song “New York Groove” playing and how a soundtrack fits into my life.”

Anyone who doesn't ask remains stupid and Lady Bird questions many aspects of life:

"I don't understand why I'm not good at math. My dad is super good at math."

“Just because something looks ugly doesn’t mean it’s morally wrong.”

“People call each other by the names their parents made up but they don’t want to believe in God.”

Growing up with all the trimmings: Falling in love for the first time, arguing with your mother and making plans for the future:

“If Danny and I get married at some point and then his grandmother dies, then I will inherit the dream house.”

“You tell me how much it costs to raise me, and then when I'm older and make a lot of money, I'll send you a check for what I owe you so I never have to talk to you again .”

“My mom is always mad. It doesn’t matter if I come home late, she’s mad anyway.”

And then of course there is the first time. Lady Bird also has a lot to say about sex:

"It's probably different if you have a real penis in there, somehow more intense."

“I was upstairs! Who the fuck is on top the first time!?”

“In the film everyone always moans loudly, but it's really no big deal, you can be completely quiet. I honestly think making out is much better.”
