What is your absolute dream job?
The story
Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton) works as a copywriter. When she is offered a job in the film department of the Ministry of Information, she accepts it without hesitation. Although the pay is poor and extremely unfair compared to the salaries of her male colleagues, she needs the money because her partner - the artist Ellis (Jack Huston) - is having difficulties selling his dark paintings. Initially, Catrin's primary task is to bring a "female perspective" into the short propaganda pieces that are shown in the cinemas. But since the ministry is desperately looking for a film material that is both authentic and optimistic and can inspire the entire nation, she is given the opportunity to help develop a script after she tells the story of the twin sisters Lily and Rose ( Francesca and Lily Knight): The two women had set sail on their father's boat to help evacuate the soldiers in Dunkirk. Although it quickly becomes clear that Lily and Rose did not make it to France due to engine failure, Catrin is soon writing a script about a dramatic rescue operation with authors Tom Buckley (Sam Claflin) and Raymond Parfitt (Paul Ritter). Veteran star Ambrose Hilliard (Bill Nighy) is supposed to take on the role of Lily and Rose's traveling uncle; US Air Force Captain Carl Lundbeck (Jake Lacy), in the role of a courageous journalist, is supposed to ensure that the US audience is also enthusiastic. However, some complications arise during filming in Devon.
