When you talk to LARY, it's a bit like chatting with a fellow student at a shared apartment party: you talk about life and university,
Every now and then there is laughter and at some point it's about sex. But before that happens, let's first talk about their first album 'Future Deutsche Welle', which is released this fall
has appeared.
Congratulations on the first album! What kind of a feeling is this?
Right now it's super exciting. The album came about very naturally. It wasn't like I said: Now I'm going to make the album. This has rather grown over a very long period of time. This feels totally 'strange' somehow.
What is the album about?
I've been asked this a lot, what the common thread is. I think I'm the common thread. I can't say that I want to say or do anything to people with my music. I'm just trying to check myself.
How's the 'self-checking' thing going?
I'm on the right track, I think.
What would you have been if you weren't a musician?
Music was always my plan A, I never thought about a plan B. I studied, but simply because I was always interested in many things. I always had a lot of opportunities and music was always what I wanted to do.
You have a bachelor's degree in cultural and media studies, why did you choose this course of study?
When I finished high school, I had to decide whether I wanted to go to music college or do something 'substantial'. And then I thought to myself: You make music anyway, then study something else. I've always tried to drive in five lanes somehow and then I just decided on what I was still interested in: 'Something with media'.
Did you enjoy being a student?
Full. That was the best time! I had a lot of free time
Did you live in a shared apartment during your studies?
No, I lived with my boyfriend. I've never shared a shared apartment with someone I haven't had sex with.
Have you ever moved in with someone who you didn't have sex with until later?
No, we clarified that beforehand.
