The story
Since father Mackenzie Phillips, who is also called 'Mack' by his friends, lost his youngest daughter Missy many years ago, his life has changed completely. Since the terrible loss, 'Mack' has been immersed in deep sadness and guilt. His wife Nan and his two other children - son Josh and Kate - can no longer get through to him either. Missy's disappearance also left their mark on them... But what happened? The family was vacationing at a campsite, enjoying the sun and siblings Kate and Josh took a boat across the lake. Meanwhile, the youngest of the group, daughter Missy, who had a very special, loving connection with her father, sat with him in front of the camper and drew a picture. But then the boat began to rock on the lake, Josh lost his balance and fell into the water. When his father rushed to help, the boy was no longer breathing. He did everything he could to save his unconscious son's life. When his son regained consciousness, Mack ran back to the camper: but there was no sign of his daughter Missy. The police were immediately called in, but the search initially yielded no results. The very last trace of his daughter was ultimately found in a shelter in the forest - not far from the campsite. Her body was not found, but her death was considered certain by police.
It was only a few minutes that Mack didn't have her in sight. Minutes that decided between life and death. While he was so close to happiness by saving his son, the next moment would put him to a severe and life-long test. Josh's revival led to Mack losing sight of his daughter - and thus being unable to protect her from her terrible fate. A moment becomes eternity and the thoughts Mack has had since then are tearing him apart inside. The question of whether he could have taken a different path to avoid tragic fate robs him of all his strength. The father of the family begins to question his faith; for what God would allow such suffering? His faith is shaken. But the question of guilt as to whether he could have saved Missy from her suffering will always be in the air...
One day, Mack discovers a mysterious letter in the mailbox. It is an invitation to the very hut where the last traces of his daughter were found. The only sender was the word “Papa”, his wife’s nickname for God. Mack is speechless and shocked, wondering who is making this hurtful joke on him. A letter from God himself?
