The story
Ella (Helen Mirren) and John (Donald Sutherland) have been married for many years. They have grown old, neither of them is really healthy anymore, their lives are now determined by doctor's visits and the demands of their adult children. Wanting to have one last real adventure, the two set up their vintage RV called “The Leisure Seeker” and quietly leave their home in Wellesley, Massachusetts. Angry and worried, the children try to find them, but John and Ella are already on a journey whose destination only they know: down the US East Coast to the Hemingway House in Key West. At night they watch their past on a slide projector, and during the day they encounter contemporary America in amusing and risky situations. With fearlessness, wit and an unwavering love for each other, the two embark on a road trip in which it becomes increasingly uncertain where it will take them.
